The Mason County Coroner and Mason County Sheriff are investigating the death of an off-road motorcycle rider who died Tuesday afternoon on a dirt bike trail behind the Washington State Patrol Academy. Coroner Wes Stockwell identified the rider as 32-year-old Michael Anthony Anderson of Olympia. At approximately 1 PM Tuesday, Anderson and his nephew, Shane Pier, had been riding the trails together when Pier observed Anderson fail to negotiate a turn in the road. Pier said that Anderson left the road and struck a group of trees. Medics were summoned and Anderson was pronounced dead at the scene. An autopsy on Anderson to determine the exact cause of death is scheduled for Wednesday.
