Seattle is one of the most beautiful cities in the world; we have Mt. Rainier, the Puget Sound, and of course the rain clouds. If you are like most people, you often soak in the natural beauty of the Norwest for a few spare moments in your car while cruising down I-5 on your way to work, while running errands, or while picking up the kids from soccer practice. We all spend a lot of time in our cars so the need to practice safe driving habits is unquestioned.
In a recent article from
Health Magazine, we found some very helpful hints that we would like to share with you.
Use a BluetoothEvery year, statistics are released that more and more car accident deaths are caused by drivers who are talking or texting while driving. In fact, just handling your phone while driving increases the liklihood of getting into an accident by 300%. We realize that some phone calls need to be made while driving, but instead of putting yourself and others at risk, go get a Bluetooth hands-free head set. They typically cost about $99.99, which is a relatively small price in comparison to car repairs and medical bills, and are proven to reduce the risk of an accident.
Clean Up
Recent studies have found that as many as 300 types of bacteria can be found in a one square inch in a car. Some of the those bacteria contributes to bad smells, as well as the week old food under the passenger seat. Every time you put gas in your car, clean it out. Go through and get rid of all the extra clutter that builds up. You will be amazed at how much your car, and you feel.
Wake Up
For those of us here in Seattle, we do not need someone to tell us caffeine is a good thing. We love our coffee, and as it turns out, that love can help make you a safer driver. According to the National Sleep Foundation, a little caffeine can help you be a better driver by heightening your awareness on the road.
Most people on the road are relatively safe drivers, but by taking these extra steps to ensure the safety of you and your family, you greatly reduce the risk of being in an accident and causing injury to yourself, loved ones, and other drivers.
