A pedestrian crosswalk accident seriously injured a woman when she was hit by a car Tuesday morning near the Westwood Shopping Center.
She was taken to Harborview Medical Center with life-threatening injuries.
The accident took place around 9 a.m. when a Honda Civic, heading south on 26th Avenue Southwest stopped behind another vehicle that was exiting the Westwood Valley Shopping Center near the 2600 block of Southwest Barton Street.
The first car moved forward when the light turned green for north and southbound traffic and as the Honda Civic began to make a left turn onto Barton Street he hit the woman who was crossing in the crosswalk.
Drugs and alcohol were ruled out as factors in the accident.
We hope the injured woman makes a full recovery from her injuries.
According to RCW 46.61.235 the operator of a vehicle shall stop to allow a pedestrian or bicycle to cross when the pedestrian is within one lane of the half of the roadway which the vehicle is traveling or turning.
