Ray Lahood, U.S. transportation secretary, has made distracted driving prevention his biggest priority due to the deaths associated with the problem. LaHood has many ideas, campaigns and more, reminding drivers to concentrate on driving while driving.
He wants to start the discussion with the government, regarding communication technology built directly into cars. He believes that the U.S. faces an epidemic of people sending emails and
making phone calls while driving. And in a recent study, people using mobile phone applictions while driving.
He is a strong supporter of manufacturers who are
discouraging communication technology installation into their vehicles. LaHood has not said whether or not the government should regulate the new trend. He believes that the topic should be discussed further when the results of a new study regarding distracted driving are available later this year.
LaHood spends the majority of his time focusing on texting and talking while driving efforts, but also reminds people to not put make-up on, eat lunch, listen to loud music and other distracting things while driving. He believes that there is nothing you cannot wait to do while driving.
When you are driving, just drive! Simple enough?
