The NHTSA is in the midst of their Labor Day crackdown that began on Aug. 19. During this time, law enforcement officials will
focus their attention on impaired drivers. August is the deadliest month for car accidents and with the addition of a three day holiday weekend creates a deadly mix.
It is estimated that 400 traffic fatalities will occur over the holiday weekend throughout the nation. Together, we can prevent this.
- If you have been drinking, do not drive under any circumstance.
- Make sure you have a designated driver or a number to a taxi service before you start to drink. Have a plan for where you are going to stay.
- Young drivers are particularly at risk during this weekend. Parents, know where your children are and what their plans are for the day/night.
- If you are to be
hit by a drunk driver, your best defense is your seat belt. Buckle up.
Since many people do drive drunk, just because you are sober does not mean those driving around you are. Therefore:
- Be more cautious than ever. Do not engage in any distracting activities while driving. Put your phone away.
- If you believe someone around you is driving drunk, call 911 and report the vehicle.
- Allow plenty of drive time. Drive slow. Since many police will be out traffic tends to slow.
- Drive defensively and exercise caution.
Davis Law Group hopes that everyone has a fun and relaxing three day vacation. Please be responsible on our roadways. In 2009, 139 people were killed nationally in drunk driving crashes during Labor Day weekend. Do not be a statistic!
