Steve Lacey, 43, was robbed of his life after a drunk driver hit his BMW on Monday night, when he was on his way to Costco. The
drunk driver was operating his SUV with a 0.32 blood alcohol content – four times the legal limit in Washington State.
Lacey was a software developer at Google. Previously, he worked for Microsoft and was an essential component in the development of the early Flight Stimulator video game series. Lacey also co-founded the tech startup company SwitchGear. He has been an employee at Google since 2006. Based on information shared by the Seattle Times, Mark Zuckerburg, co-founder of Facebook, personally recruited Lacey to work for Facebook, but he denied the offer to spend more time with his family and continued to work at Google.
Lacey is the father of two children. His son was supposed to ride with him to Costco that night, but plans changed after he decided to hang out with a classmate.
Friends of Steve Lacey said that he had the definition of a perfect, loving family.
The
man accused of killing Lacey has been put back in jail after posting bail. Prosecutors have filed vehicular homicide charges against the 56-year-old man.
You can donate to a trust fund dedicated to his children at any Chase Bank location.
We wish that there were something that could be said to offer comfort to the
family of Steve Lacey. May the love of family and friends strengthen you in the days ahead.
