Kingston Man Seriously Injured While Directing Traffic
A 27-year-old man was seriously injured after being hit by a car in Hansville while he was directing traffic Sunday afternoon. Robert Pratt of Kingston was directing traffic without flags or any other identification while a car was being towed from a ditch on Hansville Road when he was struck by an oncoming vehicle.
According to Kitsap County Sheriff spokesman Deputy Scott Wilson, Pratt was on the side of the road directing traffic when an 87-year-old Hansville man in a Honda Civic saw Pratt and attempted to brake but could not stop in time. Pratt was conscious upon the emergency crew’s arrival, but had sustained multiple fractures to his legs in the accident.
Officials say that the 87-year-old driver was driving the speed limit – which is posted at 50 mph on Hansville Road – and was not cited or arrested for his role in the accident.
More than one in ten fatal highway accidents involve a pedestrian.
