There are four strategies of the Strategic zero, enforcement being a huge factor for its success. Enforcement is responsible for police agencies at all levels. King County is a very highly populated county, therefore has the most enforcement zone areas.
The Zone areas for King County: Auburn, Federal Way, Covington, Renton, South Seattle, Downtown, and Redmond.
Auburn Zone: Half of the
impaired fatal collisions in this zone were speed related. There were 3,377 reports of possible DUI, erratic driving or wrong way drivers reported to WSP from 2007 to 2009. Saturdays, Sundays and Fridays were the peaking days.
Federal Way Zone: Two of the three fatal collisions happened on city streets. There were twenty one reports of possible DUI, erratic driving or wrong way drivers reported to WSP from 2007 to 2009. Peak days were the same.
Covington Zone: Two of three fatal crashes happened on city streets. There were 716 calls reporting driver negligence (same as above).
Renton Zone: Speed accounted for six of the seven collisions. There were 1,245 calls (same as above). South Seattle Zone: 27 of 39 fatal collisions were speed related. There were 6,411 citizen report calls (same as above). The most calls of the King County Zone.
Downtown Zone: 19 of 32
fatal collisions were speed related. There were 4,533 citizen report calls.
Redmond Zone: Two of three fatal collisions were between midnight and 2 a.m. Both were speed related. There were not calls to WSP (Wow!). For full maps of the Zone, click here.
