Hyundai was ruled liable for a passenger’s death in SUV road accident. The court ruled that the automaker is responsible for the 19-year-old girl’s death after being ejected from the 2005 Hyundai Tucson in a rollover accident. The girl had apparently reclined her seat back to take a nap in her vehicle.
The lawsuit alleges that the Hyundai design defected because the restrain system did not protect the passenger when their seat was reclined more than 45-degree angle. The seat never should have reclined that much if it were not able to protect the passenger, the lawsuit states.
The lawsuit against the girl’s parents and Hyundai settled for $810,000.
