Fox Island Man Charged in Hit-and-Run Bicycle Accident

Bicycle Accident in Gig HarborProsecutors have formally charged a man suspected of striking a female bicyclist with his SUV with vehicular assault and failure to remain at the scene, thanks in large part to the woman’s determined husband.

According to reports, a woman had been riding her bicycle near 42nd St. Ct. NW in Gig Harbor when she was allegedly struck by an SUV driven by Gregory Andrews. A passerby who did not witness the incident found the woman lying in the road and called 911.

The bicyclist’s husband, a 52-year-old man from Gig Harbor, took it upon himself two weeks later to find the driver who caused the accident resulting in a concussion and other injuries to his wife. He reportedly found the vehicle on Fox Island with damage to the side mirror and called authorities. When Pierce County sheriff’s deputies arrived to speak with Andrews, he denied hitting anyone with his vehicle. Andrews is scheduled to be arraigned on August 17.
