A Forks woman was seriously injured after being struck by a drunk driver while she was headed west on Highway 101 through the Olympic National Park on Saturday. Authorities have confirmed that the other driver, a 56-year-old man from Bainbridge Island was speeding and under the influence of alcohol at the time of the collision.
The woman suffered multiple broken bones as well as internal injuries. She was initially taken to Olympia Medical Center but had to be airlifted to Harborview Medical Center where she was reported to be in serious condition. The other driver was not seriously injured.
Since the accident happened at a National Park, the vehicular assault charges will be handled in federal court. The at-fault driver was booked into a county jail and is awaiting charges.
