Tacoma, WA--
A sheriff's deputy of Pierce County shot a driver early Monday morning after a car chase ended in Tacoma.
At around 3:15 am, an attempted traffic stop at 133rd and Pacific triggered a car chase that ended at the 3800 block of South Tacoma. According to Deputies, the driver, a 21 year old male, was pulled over for speeding. Deputies said that the driver did not have a driver's license and was acting "strange".
According Det. Ed Troyer, the chase began when the driver drove away while deputies were running his name for a background check. As the officers chased the 21 year old, he swerved at patrol cars and at an officer attempting to layout a spike strip.
"When they finally got him stopped, they went up to get him and while our deputies were out of the car he rammed one of our patrol cars," said Troyer. "The suspect attempted to one deputy over. The other deputy fired a couple rounds and hit him."
The suspect was able to drive down the street after being shot but was stopped by ramming his car.
Troyer later stated that the deputies had learned that the suspect had been involved in a domestic situation eariler in the night, and had "been in jail a few times."
