Around 7:16 PM on Wednesday, while driving 5 miles north of the Oregon state line near Chinook, a vehicle veered right and left the roadway, crossing the shoulder and sidewalk until it struck a power pole and the side of a church building. The vehicle rolled once before coming to rest on its top near Cherry Street.
The driver, Nathaniel Dust, 26, was killed instantly. His passenger, Christopher Rowe, 22, was injured and taken to Ocean Beach Hospital with back and neck pain.
The cause of crash is under investigation, it is not known whether alcohol or drugs were involved, but both men were wearing their seatbelts.
