The US Department of Transportation and the National Highway Traffic Safety Commision have released statistics and analysis on State Motor Vehicle Fatalities in 2010. Motor vehicle accident deaths in Washington State are down.
In 2010, 458 people lost their lives in motor vehicle collisions on Washington state interstates, highways, roadways and streets. This number is down 34% when compared to the 492 people who died in accidents in 2009.
In 2010 170 people in Washington state died in alcohol related collisions. This figure is 18 percent lower than the 207 people who died in impaired crashes in 2009 (34 fewer fatalities in 2010). These are fatalities in crashes involving a driver with a blood alcohol concentration of .08 or greater.
