Currently, the National Highway Traffic Administration is conducting its annual Labor Day enforcement crackdown on impaired driving. August is the deadliest month for drunk driving.
Extra patrol will be on duty through the holiday weekend in an effort to prevent this.

DOT Secretary Ray Lahood will be speaking about the importance of law enforcement crackdown on drunk driving with MADD. Recently, the White House named MADD a “Champion of Change.”

Lahood said in a blog post today that he was pleased with his first meeting with the new MADD President Jan Withers.

Withers has been on the MADD National Board of Directors since 2005, after her 15-year-old daughter was killed by a drunk driver. Withers also serves on the MADD Maryland Operations Council, where she is a certified victim advocate and certified trainer for MADD Victim Services.
