Date: July 23- 26
Location: SR 520, Redmond
Type: Traffic Backups
Outcome: Potential Backups
If you are a resident of Redmond or planning on visiting the Redmond area this weekend, you may need to rethink how you are going to be getting to your destination this weekend. According to the Washington State Department of Transportation, drivers should plan for long delays and take alternate routes this weekend as crews close a portion of eastbound SR 520 in Redmond.
The road will be closed beginning Friday evening at 10 p.m. and will reopen Monday morning at around 5 am.
Crews will be closing all eastbound lanes between SR 202 and Avondale Road. This closure begins the final phase of the SR 520 widening project in Redmond; during which crews will pave the highway and move barriers to create a new work zone in the median. All eastbound SR 520 traffic must exit at SR 202, take a right onto SR 202, left onto 180th Avenue SE, left onto Union Hill Road to Avondale Road in order to continue eastbound travel. If you are familiar with the area, you know that those road are not designed for such heavy traffic flow. If you are going to be traveling in that area, expect delays and plan accordingly.
