Elder Sexual Abuse Claims

Elder sexual abuse claims are a major problem in our society. It is hard to understand how a nursing home complaint for sexual abuse can be neglected and not handled immediately.

Nursing homes, state regulators, and the police need to work together in order to put a stop to elder sexual abuse. If investigation is done with more care and urgency, we may see a big change in this problem. There is an agency in each state that handles these types of cases. However, these reports show that state investigators did not investigate seven percent of complaints. The agencies state this is due to lack of employees and insufficient training.

Police officers are not trained to investigate elder abuse allegations; therefore they are a bit helpless in a situation like this. There is a recommendation that the officers should be specifically trained to investigate elder abuse allegations to ensure that these claims are handled properly.
