Eating Ranked as Most Distracting Thing to Do While Driving

In a study conducted by Exxon Mobil, it was uncovered that texting is not the biggest distraction while driving – it is eating.
The study consisted of 1,000 drivers and found that over 70% of drivers eat behind the wheel and 83% of those drivers drink (non-alcoholic) beverages while driving.

Eating behind the wheel increases your odds of getting into a car accident by 80%. And 65% of “close calls” are caused by people distracted by eating and drinking. Believe it or not, those statistics are more alarming than texting while driving.

After this study was conducted, a list of the most dangerous food and beverages were compiled. Sorry, Starbucks.

Most Dangerous Foods and Beverages to Consume while Driving:

10. Chocolate – This is such a messy food. When you drop it on your lap, or get in on your fingers, it is distracting you from the road.

9. Soft Drinks – What if you spill your super-sized coke while driving?

8. Jelly and Cream Filled or Powdered Donuts – Gooey and sticky – not a good combination when driving.

7. Fried chicken – The outside of the chicken is a total mess. But honestly, who eats fried chicken when they drive?

6. Barbecued Food – BBQ sauce drips and can get all over your clothes = distraction

5. Juicy Hamburgers – Again, it drips and is messy. Have your passenger drive if you are desperate to eat that cheeseburger right away.

4. Chili – This can be a mess when you’re eating at a table, I can only imagine while you’re driving…

3. Tacos – Read above.

2. Hot Soups – Soup is hot, obviously. What if you spill it all over your lap while you’re driving? The cause of a disaster on the road.

1. Coffee – This is the most popular drink to consume while driving, but, if that barista didn’t snap the top of your coffee cup on right, that is a huge potential for a car accident.
