Four people died in
drunk driving collisions this weekend in Western Washington and 9 others were injured in DUI related collisions the weekend of March 5-6. Washington law provides that the drivers on the road have the duty to not operate a motor vehicle when under the influence of alcohol. See RCW 46.61.502.
Shelton, WA DUI Accident
Saturday March 5, a Washington State Patrol trooper attempted to stop a 1996 Dodge Intrepid for speeding. After a five-mile pursuit along State Route 102 the driver lost control and drove off the roadway. The driver, Cristobal Ramos-Pablo was treated at Mason General Hospital for minor injuries. The Passenger was treated at Mason General Hospital. Troopers arrested the driver for Felony Eluding, DUI, and Driving While License Suspended 3rd Degree.
Mason County DUI Collision
Sunday March 6, three young men died when the drunken driver of a 1990 Chevy Corsica lost control of his vehicle in a curve and left the roadway and struck a tree off of southbound on State Route 3 just north of Allyn.
Three men were pronounced dead at the scene: Bryan Blackburn, Daniel Tedder, and Tyler Jankunas. Passenger Benjamin Blackburn was injured. The driver, James Schuchard, was airlifted to Harborview Medical Center and faces charges of Vehicular Homicide.
Clallam County Alcohol-related Crash
Sunday March 6, troopers responded to a two-vehicle collision on State Route 112, near Port Angeles. Amber Steim was driving a 2005 Toyota pickup headed west when she crossed the centerline and struck Ellen DeBondt’s 1994 Chevrolet S-10 pickup.
DeBondt was pronounced dead at the scene. Nicole Boucher, a passenger in Steim’s vehicle, received minor injuries.
Steim was later booked into the Clallam County Jail. She faces charges of Vehicular Homicide.
Kitsap County Drunk Driving Collision
Sunday March 6, a two-car collision on State Route 3 also involved alcohol. John C. Rogers was under the influence of alcohol when he drove his 1994 Mercury Cougar into the rear-end of a 2001 Jeep Cherokee that had slowed to make a turn.
Naomi Hyatt, the driver of the Jeep, suffered a serious back injury while her Kassandra Jadin suffered head and neck injuries.
