In recent years, the United States has seen a great improvement in the everlasting drunken driving epidemic. While we have improved significantly together as a nation, there are still thousands of
drunk drivers out on our roadways.
Alcohol-related collisions are responsible for almost one-third of all road fatalities in the U.S.
In 2009, the overall amount of deaths fell 33,808, the lowest number since 1950. Alcohol impaired driving deaths declined by 7.4 percent in 2009 at 10,839 compared to 11,711 in 2008.
Drunk driving remains the deadliest epidemic on our roadways.
NHTSA administrator David Strickland believes that technology can prevent people from drunk driving.
"We have to get people to make the right decision," Strickland said, and if they don't - technology could step in.
