Drunk Driver Released on Bail After Killing a Kirkland Man

The man that is accused of killing Steve Lacey in a road rage car accident was freed on bail. Patrick Rexroat was driving intoxicated – four times the legal limit – when hitting and instantly killing the Google software developer.

The victim’s friends and family are outraged and upset that Rexroat was able to leave jail on bail.

"Their family was the definition of perfection. Such sweet, loving people," Samantha Idle, friend of the Lacey family, said.

Originally, Rexroat’s bail was $1 million, but after reviewing his prior criminal history, his bail was dropped to $50,000 because of his clean record.

"There's no reason why he should be home enjoying his life right now," she said. "Why shouldn't he be out? He just killed the most amazing person," Idle said.

Lacey was running to Costco when an SUV, driven by Rexroat, crossed the center line and killed him. His son had plans to run the errand with his dad, but changed his mind and stayed home at the last minute.

His friends describe Lacey as a loving man who cared deeply for his children and wife. He and his wife just celebrated their 10 year anniversary.
