Drunk Driver Hits, Kills Cyclist in Kirkland

Another bicyclist was killed early this morning after being hit by an SUV on his way to work.

The 35-year-old cyclist was riding to work in the 13200 block of NE 124th Street around 3 a.m. when he was hit near an intersection. The rider was already pronounced dead when the medics arrived.

The man was driving the SUV continue for a block and then turned around and returned to the fatal accident scene. The man was arrested for investigation of DUI. The passenger of the vehicle is also being interviewed. Neither people were hurt in the crash.

The bicyclist was wearing all the correct gear to look visible – a reflective vest, a head lamp and blinking lights.

"The bicyclist was doing everything right, he was well marked with lights and everything," said Lt. Mike Murray with Kirkland police. "(The driver) is under arrest for investigation of DUI at this time."
