Last Saturday, fifty-four of the best safety inspectors from the United States and Canada came out to compete in the 2011 North American Inspectors Championship hosted by Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance. The championship is to recognize professional and
commercial vehicle inspectors and drivers on our roadways. Every year, inspectors conduct 3.5 million roadside inspections across the nation.
The event included competitions in a variety of categories including inspections of hazmat vehicles, passenger busses and cargo haulers and an overall winner.
This year’s winner was John Sova, a certified North American Standard inspector from North Dakota who received the Jimmy K. Ammons Grand Champion Award for his performance.
Then, awards went out to professional drivers who conduct safety driving habits on our roads. The largest trucking even in the industry calls it the “Super Bowl of Safety.”
Through the 50 states, over 400 drivers attended this year’s event. The competition put drivers through a series of obstacle courses designed to mirror many real world situations, including an alley dock, a rear stop, a front line stop, a scale stop, a right or left turn, parallel parking, and straight line driving through a diminishing clearance.
A Con-way freight truck driver from Coarsegold, Calif. Paul Phillips was this year’s Grand Champion, with 35 years of experience as a professional driver and 1.6 million miles of driving practice.
Davis Law Group is pleased to hear that people are being recognized for safety practices on our roadways. Congratulations, John Sova and Paul Philips!
