The driver of a semi tractor and trailer combination fell asleep at the wheel, causing severe damage. State Route 18 west of State Route 516 was closed for more than two hours around 1:00 am the morning of July 1.
The driver hit many sections of the guardrail, a bridge embankment and several trees after falling asleep. The driver’s seat is the only thing that remained of the driver’s compartment after the tractor was ripped apart.
The tank on a passing semi truck was damaged by a piece of barrier in the
semi truck accident causing it to spray the roadway with diesel. The roadway was sanded and the trailer was removed, the lanes were closed during this time.
The driver was transported to a local hospital after
suffering serious injuries.
