Starting on Thanksgiving, the '
Driver Hammered, Get Nailed' campaign that is a collaboration between the Washington Traffic Safety Commission, law enforcement statewide and the King County Target Zero Task Forces will start targeting drunk drivers. The crack down will continue through the holiday season, ending on January 2nd. Local law enforcement will conduct extra DUI patrols throughout King County to rid the roads of impaired drivers during the holiday season.
According to information from the Seattle PI, the average blood alcohol level of people arrested in Washington for DUI is about .14, almost twice the legal limit of .08 and in 2009 there were 41,006 people charged with DUI in Washington.
Washington State wants to lower that statistic and help people have a safe holiday season by keeping drunk drivers off the road. Law enforcement urges holiday party-goers to make smart driving decisions inlcuding using a designated driver or taxi service if alcohol has been consumed. They warn any drivers that decide to drive while hammered, will get nailed.
