Distracted Teenage Driver Crashes With School Bus

Texting While Driving Accident With School Bus?

A Benton City teenager claims he was distracted by other students near the roadway when he caused the minivan he was driving to hit a school bus.  Apparently the teen driver and four high school students that were on the bus were injured in the collision and transported to Kadlec Hospital in Richland, WA.  Many suspect that the teenager may have been texting while driving. No other details are available at this time.

(1) A person operating a moving motor vehicle who, by means of an electronic wireless communications device, sends, reads, or writes a text message, is guilty of a traffic infraction. A person does not send, read, or write a text message when he or she reads, selects, or enters a phone number or name in a wireless communications device for the purpose of making a phone call.  See RCW 46.61.668.
