Des Moines Driver Killed In Single Car Accident

Last night, a young man was killed in the Des Moines area after his car crashed through a guardrail and flew 40 to 50 feet down a wooded ravine.

The Des Moines Police Department is investigating the single car crash, which occurred on South 216th Street near Marine Drive South at 10:20 p.m.

According to the neighbor who made the 911 call, the driver was traveling westbound at a high rate of speed before crashing into the guardrail and plummeting down into the ravine. After going through the guard rail, the car proceeded into a tree on its way down the ravine/

Police were quick to respond to the scene, arriving one minute after the call and the first officer made his way down to the black 1992 Honda Accord, where he found the deceased driver.

South King Fire and Rescue and the Washington State Patrol assisted in a thorough search of the surrounding area, using a thermal imaging device, to look for possible passengers however no one else was found.

South 216th Street was blocked for most of the night but was reopened just before 5 a.m
