A driver died in a car accident that took place around 11:40 p.m. Saturday north of Mesa near Highway 17 in Franklin County.

The man, who was in a car that had been reported stolen, sped away from police when they attempted to pull him over.

According to police, it is thought that the driver was going nearly 100 mph on Hendricks Road when he lost control of a Chevrolet Tahoe, causing it to go off the road and roll.

The unidentified man was thrown out of the car and killed instantly.

Alcohol is thought to have been a factor in this crash.
