Brandi C. Berry, 37, hit the tree at about 7 p.m. She was pulled from the car by neighbors, but was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the Whatcom County Sheriff's Office.
The car caught fire after the crash, and the fire department was able to put out both the car fire and the small grass fire it created.
Berry lived on Zell Road, according to the Sheriff's Office. The accident is still under investigation; it is unknown whether Berry was wearing a seat belt or whether alcohol use was a factor in the crash.
