The very popular Burke-Gilman trail that goes through many cities has been the cause of many bicycle accidents. There is a segment on the trail, that is located in the industrial part of Ballard, in which there is a missing link and an old railroad track. Together, these problems are a very dangerous hazard for bicyclists.
Not only have many people been injured, but the City of Seattle has yet to do anything about the problem. Many lawsuits have been filed against the city due to their negligence to repair the missing link of the trail.
Cyclist injuries have included broken hips, severe brusing and broken teeth. It is reported that since the late 1990’s, there have been hundreds of bicycle accidents in this one area.
