A child was injured in a crosswalk around 7:30 Monday morning in Oak Harbor.

Eleven year old Alex Snellman was taken to Whidbey General Hospital with serious injuries but was later moved to Harborview Medical Center. His injuries consisted of a broken femur and a fractured clavicle. They are not considered life-threatening.

According to Oak Harbor Police Chief Rick Wallace, Snellman was walking to school in dark, overcast weather. He was in the crosswalk on Regatta Drive just south of Whidbey Avenue when he was hit by a driver in a 1985 GMC truck heading southbound on Regatta Drive.

The driver of the GMC told police he was unable to stop in time.

The accident is still under investigation, but the driver may be charged with failure to yield for a pedestrian.
