Car Accidents and Cell Phone Use

In the last few weeks I have been hired by 5 individuals who were injured in car accidents.  Now that is not unusual in my practice.  What is unusual is that each person claims that the accident was caused by a person who was using a cell phone!

For some reason, I am seeing an increase in accident cases which involve someone not paying attention while using a cell phone.  My state recently enacted a law which prohibits drivers from using cell phones while driving (except you can use a hands-free kit).  Four out of  the 5 accidents that I was retained on were accidents that occurred before the new cell phone ban was enacted.

My message to drivers in Washington State: please stop using your cell phone while driving.  At least purchase a hands-free kit.  By no means should any driver attempt to text while using the cell phone.  I also have a few accident cases where the person was texting just prior to the accident.
