A bus hit a light pole after a pickup truck sideswiped the motor coach. The accident killed one passenger and injured 21 others.
The truck was pulling out onto the highway from a side street when it
hit the bus. The truck was towing another pickup when the accident occurred. The driver was issued a ticket for failing to yield at the intersection.
Juanita Lopez-Perez, 53, was killed and 21 others on board were taken to hospitals with injuries and reported to be in stable condition after the crash. None of the injuries were life threatening.
Lopez-Perez was at the
front of the bus and closest to the door at the time of the accident.
"It happened so fast," passenger Larry Sanchez told The Victoria Advocate. "Once the impact hit, it was total pandemonium."
Witnesses said the bus driver, Guadalupe Ruiz, 57, didn't have time to react when the truck pulled out in front of him.
