Traumatic Brain Injury and the Recovery Process
Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI), brain damage and other types of head injuries are a result of direct trauma to the skull and/or rapid acceleration and deceleration of the brain, including shearing (tearing) of nerve fibers, contusion (bruising) of the brain tissue against the skull, brain stem injuries, and edema (swelling). Davis Law Group is a metro Seattle personal injury law firm that specializes in handling personal injury claims involving brain injuries.
The Center for Disease Control (CDC) estimates that at least 5.3 million Americans, approximately 2% of the U.S. population, currently have a long-term or lifelong need for help to perform activities of daily living as a result of TBI. Also, TBI contributes to a substantial number of deaths and cases of permanent disability annually. The new law in the state of Washington will take important first steps in providing some funding of services. More importantly, it will organize (for the first time) a Strategic Partnership Advisory Council to identify gaps in services and how to fix it so that effective treatment and services are provided to those struggling with TBI and its aftermath.
Brain injury can have an everlasting affect on your life and your loved one's life. Of course, there are many things you can do to do help. It is a very slow process but can be very effective.
Rehabilitation is the most effective and important step. Since all brain injuries are very different, all healing processes are different. Another great step in the recovery process is joining a brain injury support group. There are many support groups in communities. Socialization has proven to be an effective method to help heal the brain.
There is research being done every day to help heal brain and spinal cord injuries. Since they are such severe and everlasting injuries, we can only hope one day there will be a proven recovery method.
