Black ice in Auburn caused at least 16 accidents within a three-mile stretch. The crashes occurred on State Route 18.
"We didn't expect to see this at all," says Cliff Pratt, trooper with the Washington State Patrol.
Many cars spun into ditches and one
vehicle rolled on its side. Both lanes of SR-18 were closed to clear the accidents and allow tow trucks to remove damage cars.
Thankfully, there were no serious injuries from the ice.
WSDOT said that they put de-ice on SR-18 but the rain water flushed it off the roads.
The roads are now open and safe.
