Arrest Made after Purdy Hit-and-Run Crash that Killed Motorcyclist

Police have arrested a Gig Harbor man who fled the scene of a motorcycle accident on State Route 302 near Purdy that left the motorcyclist with fatal injuries Saturday night.

According to the Washington State Patrol (WSP), a 43-year-old man from Gig Harbor was driving an SUV northbound on SR 302 at approximately 11 p.m. Saturday. A man on a motorcycle was driving southbound – in the opposite direction – on the same roadway.

The driver of the SUV then allegedly turned left in front of the motorcyclist and caused a collision that sent the motorcyclist off his bike. The driver of the SUV then fled the scene of the accident and left the motorcyclist in the roadway with life-threatening injuries.

At-Fault Driver Arrested Hours Later

Troopers say that the motorcyclist died at the scene of the crash, and he has not yet been identified by the Pierce County medical examiner’s office. He has only been identified as a 21-year-old man from the Gig Harbor area.

Police were able to eventually locate the man they suspected of being the driver of the SUV, and news reports show that they arrested him approximately three hours after the crash occurred.
