Apple is rejecting iPhone applications that tell drivers where police checkpoints are for drunken driving. Four U.S. senators were the main forces to ban these apps.
It took some time to get the applications off the system, but should all be gone now.
These applications often combined warnings about DUI checkpoints with warnings regarding speed and red-light cameras. These warnings were registered by locations for drivers.
Senators Harry Reid (D-Nev.), Charles E. Schumer (D-N.Y.), Frank R. Lautenberg (D-N.J.), and Tom Udall (D-N.M.) asked Apple, Research In Motion Ltd., the maker of the BlackBerry, and Google Inc. to
remove DUI-avoidance apps in March. RIM complied, but Google refused.
Google runs an application store for phones that use its Android software. The company places far fewer restrictions on application developers than Apple does.
Seattle DUI collision afftorney Chris Davis supports Apple's cooperation with this ban. Be a safe and responsible driver on the road during summers months.
