Type: Animal Attack and Dog Bite Injury
Date: February 3, 2010, 02/03/2010
Location: Port Angeles
Outcome: One Child Injured
A Port Angeles child received serious dog bite injuries after his Dad's dog mauled him Wednesday night.
The 11 year old boy, James Sims was taken to Olympic Medical Center in Port Angeles by his neighbor but was later transported to Harborview Medical Center.
According to hospital personnel, as of Thursday, the child was in satisfactory condition.
Around 5:30 in the evening, Sims was bitten on his face, hands and arms multiple times while he was home alone at his father's apartment.
According to Port Angeles Police, the dog was considered to be aggressive although police thought Sims provoked the attack
Sims' neighbor Kevin Talbot said that the boy was bleeding when he came to him for help. He fixed him up and took him straight to the hospital and let neighbors call the police.
The dog was a black lab mix weighing about 50 pounds.
Police caught the dog but he got loose and is still missing.
We hope that James is able to recover quickly from his dog bite injuries.
National dog bite and dog attack statistics say that about 100 children are bitten by dogs everyday in the United States alone. Of those bitten, nearly 92 percent of them will have to seek medical attention.
