Interstate 5 Northbound between Albro Place / Swift Avenue (Exit 161) and James Street (Exit 164) is One of Seattle Metro Area’s Congested & Collision Prone RoadwaysA recent study found that Interstate 5 Northbound between Albro Place / Swift Avenue (Exit 161) and James Street (Exit 164) was one of the most congested roadways in the metro Seattle area in 2010. The corridor ranks #10 locally and #192 nationally. During uncongested times it takes as little as 4 minutes to travel this 4 mile stretch of roadway. But during peak commute hours it can take as much as 9 minutes. And between 12pm and 1pm on Saturdays, this roadway’s worst hour, it can take up to 13 minutes to travel this short distance.
Where there is smoke there is fire. And where there is roadway congestion there are motor vehicle accidents. Stop-and-go traffic and frustrated commuters don’t mix well with cell phones, computers, and texting while driving. It is no coincidence that this area is the site of numerous collisions each year.
