Accident Zone: I-405 SB between WA-527 and WA-908

Interstate 405 Southbound between WA-527 / 26th Avenue (Exit 118) and WA-908 / 85th Street (Exit 18) is one of Seattle Metro Area’s Congested & Collision Prone Roadways

A recent study found that Interstate 405 Southbound between WA-527 / 26th Avenue (Exit 118) and WA-908 / 85th Street (Exit 18) was one of the most congested roadways in the metro Seattle area in 2010.  The corridor ranks #7 locally and #166 nationally.  During uncongested times it takes as little as 9 minutes to travel this 8.7 mile stretch of roadway.  But during peak commute hours it can take as much as 16 minutes.  And between 8am and 9am on Thursdays, this roadway’s worst hour, it can take up to 21 minutes to travel this short distance. 

Where there is smoke there is fire.  And where there is roadway congestion there are motor vehicle accidents.  Stop-and-go traffic and frustrated commuters don’t mix well with cell phones, computers, and texting while driving.  It is no coincidence that this area is the site of numerous collisions each year.
