Washington Highway 16 Eastbound at Union Avenue is the Site of One of the Seattle Metro Area’s Biggest Traffic Bottlenecks and Motor Vehicle Accident Hotspots
A recent study found that Washington Highway 16 Eastbound at Union Avenue was one of Pierce County’s accident hotspots and a key travel bottleneck area in 2010. The site ranks as the Seattle metro area’s #2 bottleneck site locally and #275 nationally. The average traveling speed on this 0.76 mile stretch of roadway is only 21.1 mph.
Where there are traffic bottlenecks there is roadway congestion. And where there is roadway congestion there are motor vehicle accidents. Frustrated commuters and bumper-to-bumper traffic don’t mix well with cell phone conversations and texting while driving. It is no coincidence that this area is the site of numerous motor vehicle collisions each year.
