A man was wrongfully killed by a food delivery truck company and it is now under investigation by officials. The 49-year-old victim Jerry Whitman was
pinned by the truck and killed. The truck was owned by Pepsi.
Whitman was an employee at Institution Food House for more than 20 years. “You see this in industrial type settings,” said Hickory police captain Gary Lee. “It’s just a tragedy. It was right there at the loading dock. This side of the building where all the bay doors are.”
There was a surveillance camera near the loading dock where the accident happened. They plan on reviewing the video to learn more information about the wrongful death accident.
Collin O’Dwyer has been a truck driver for 17 years and said that it is difficult even when it is done properly.
"I’ve seen drivers backing up where people just walk and try to beat the truck backing up even as slow as it is, you can misjudge it," he said.
A similar accident occurred a few years ago but the victim survived the accident.
Delivery truck driving can be very difficult and sometimes dangerous.
Do you think there should be any further safety regulations that should be enforced to increase delivery truck safety?
