A bus turned over on its side on its way to a high school national band competition. The bus carried several high school students, injuring more than three dozen people.
Thirty nine people were taken to hospitals after the
bus crash, according to Jessica Lown, spokeswoman for the Iowa Department of Public Safety.
No one died in the crash or suffered life-threatening injuries.
"The vast majority of injuries were really minor - bumps and bruises," Lown said.
Investigators believe the cause of the crash was a flat tire.
The
school bus driver was pinned inside the bus after falling on its side. A rescue helicopter flew the driver of the bus to a hospital with serious injuries. He was released from the hospital a few days later.
