About 40% of car accident fatalities occur because of a drunken driver. About 30% of the car accident fatalities can be attributed to driving above the speed limits and 33% and above because of reckless driving that causes the car to go off the road and result in an accident.

DES MOINE, Wa. A tragic accident occurred on Friday when a 76 year-old man accidentally hit the gas pedal instead of the brake and drove his SUV vehicle off of the Des Moines Pier and into Puget Sound.
A couple of passers-by immediately dove into the water while the vehicle was half-way submerged. The driver was pulled out and saved. Unfortunately, the 86 year-old female passenger was not. She drowned and was later declared dead at the scene.
The accident is still under investigation by the Des Moines Police Department. But it appears to be an accident without any criminal conduct. Legally, this accident involves simple negligence. That is, the man was careless and failed to act with ordinary care when he accidentally drove into the water. The deceased woman's estate has a civil claim against the man. The driver's insurance company will certainly protect his interests and make efforts to resolve the estate's claim for damages. Obviously, this is small consolation to the relatives and friends of the deceased, who have suffered an enormous loss. My heart goes out to the woman's survivors.
PUYALLUP — Two people have been killed in a sports car crash in Puyallup that resulted in a car fire. Apparently the sports car was speeding when it went out of control. It drove through a metal fence and became airborne, flew aabout 100 feet, and crashed into the side of a building. One person was thrown from the car and killed. The other was trapped in the burning car and also died. It appears that the car may have been stolen as it was registered to a car dealership.
BRINNON — A dump truck backed over and killed a flagger on Highway 101 near Brinnon.
On Monday, June 23, a woman acting as a flagger in a construction zone was killed on Highway 101 near Hood Canal. The tragedy occurred when a dump truck backed up and struck the woman during a road paving project near Binnon, Washington. The 49 year-old woman died at the scene.
There are questions that need to be answered. For instance, most construction trucks are equipped with a noise alarm when the vehicle goes into reverse. Was this dump truck equipped with such an alarm, and if so, was it working at the time of the incident? Another question addresses the woman's conduct. What was she doing and was she standing where she was supposed to be?
There may be issues of comparative fault or comparative negligence. The woman's estate and surviving beneficiaries (as designated under the Washington Wrongful Death Statute) may have a claim for negligence against the dump truck driver and his employer. The investigation should be carried out promptly and all witnesses should be interviewed. Photographs of the accident scene should also be taken immediately to preserve what the location looked like when the death occurred. I wish to extend my sincere condolences the woman's family.

Separate multivariate multinomial logit models of injury severity are estimated for male and female drivers. The models predict the probability of four injury severity outcomes: no injury (property damage only), possible injury, evident injury, and fatal/disabling injury. The models are conditioned on driver gender and the number and type of vehicles involved in the accident. The conditional structure avoids bias caused by men and women’s different reporting rates, choices of vehicle type, and their different rates of participation as drivers, which would affect a joint model of all crashes. We found variables that have opposite effects for the genders, such as striking a barrier or a guardrail, and crashing while starting a vehicle. The results suggest there are important behavioral and physiological differences between male and female drivers that must be explored further and addressed in vehicle and roadway design.

His instructor/trainer was asleep in the back of the truck. The driver lost control of the truck and crashed into the Eastside Street overpass. The cargo, a load of produce, spilled onto I-5 causing traffic to back up on both north and southbound lanes.

A pipe bomb was found in a pickup truck that was involved in a fatal crash on Highway 3 near the Bremerton Airport.
The bomb was discovered when officials were clearing a five-vehicle crash that killed one person and sent two others to hospitals.
Apparently the pickup crossed the centerline, forcing an oncoming semi-truck into another car, killing the driver. The semi then rolled over on a smaller car. The driver of the smaller car was trapped inside the car for two hours. He was flown to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle. Another vehicle crashed into the wreckage.
