Date: February 26, 2009
Location: Downtown Seattle
Type: Pedestrian/Crosswalk Accident
About 9:20 pm at the intersection of Third Avenue and Lenora Street three pedestrians were in the crosswalk legally when they were hit by a pickup truck. Apparently the three people hit by the truck were from Michigan, visiting the Seattle area on vacation. One was treated at the scene for a bruised leg, the others were transported to Harborview Medical Center with serious injuries, one of which police said was possibly life-threatening.
The driver is reportedly a 26-year-old from Tacoma. He was taken to the King County Jail for vehicular assult.
BELLINGHAM - An Amtrak train struck and killed a bicyclist in Bellingham. Apparently the train had just left the Bellingham station en route to Portland when it collided with the biker at a pedestrian crossing. The crossing is marked by warning signs. At this time it is unknown whether or not the woman was wearing an iPod or other music player that may have prevented her from hearing the train.
SEATTLE - The Washington State Patrol Toxicology Lab must have all of its breath-test machines retested for accuracy. It uses the machines to measure the alcohol level of drunken-driving suspects. A Seattle court is concerned about the accuracy of the machines.
SEATTLE & TACOMA - Seattle and Tacoma are about to undergo a driving test. This Thursday, a group of driving instructors, State Patrol troopers and volunteers will test and compare the two cities' driving habits, such as obeying speeds, observing safe separations between vehicles, wearing seat belts, signaling lane changes -- and leaving those cell phones off. Surveyers will be stationed at two locations in Seattle and two in Tacoma. They will also monitor such things as ignoring pedestrians, running red lights, cutting other drivers off and talking on cell phones. They'll also watch for road rage.
