Around 11:25am on Thursday morning, 11/18/2010, a pickup truck hit the back of a
school bus carrying 34 middle school students and spun into oncoming traffic colliding with a van on Key Peninsula Highway in Gig Harbor. All three drivers involved were taken to St. Anthony's Hospital for treatment; the status of their injuries is unknown. Six students from Key Peninsula Middle School that were on the school bus were also taken to the hospital as a precaution. Officials from the Pierce County Sheriff's Office are still investigating the cause of the crash but they do know that the truck driver will be cited with driving with a suspended license, driving without vehicle insurance and failure to wear a seat belt. It is still unknown if alcohol or drugs played a role in the crash.
