Seafair 2011 was a success, besides the 71 boating under the influence arrests that the police made, along with the three people who were busted for underage drinking. However, these numbers are down from past years.
The State Patrol works with other law enforcement agencies
to arrest drunken boaters who appear to be drunk. Seafair weekend is responsible the majority of tickets in King County than the rest of the year.
This year, police contacted 554 boats for various violations.
In 2008, Seafair races accounted for 84 BUI arrests and 21 minor in possession of alcohol arrests. While these numbers are down, the amount of vessel contacts with authorities has gone up. There were 413 boat contacts in 2008.

Boating Under the Influence Law in Washington State
Washington’s boating under the influence (BUI) law is governed by RCW 79A.60.040, which has many similarities and differences to Washington’s driving under the influence law (DUI). Although drinking alcohol is not illegal on the boat, the operator is required to be under the legal limit.
