5 Things Every Truck Accident Victim Should Know

Because of their large size trucking accidents are the most serious type of motor vehicle collision on Washington State roadways.

Cases such as the July 20, 2011 semi truck collision with a logging truck which started a 15-vehicle chain-reaction pileup are a perfect example of just how serious these types of accidents can be.

The trucking companies, AP Transport in Blaine, WA in this case often have drivers that operate truck at an unsafe speed. Or often times the trucks have not been properly
maintained and thus are unsafe.

Seattle semi-truck accident attorney Chris Davis, who has handled a number of trucking collision cases, says that the trucking companies and their insurance companies vigorously defend these kinds of cases in order to minimize the amounts that they must pay in settlements and/or jury verdicts.

In this video Davis describes five important factors that victims of trucking accidents and their families need to know.

1. The trucking companies take accident cases very seriously and begin an immediate investigation.
2. The trucking companies have attorneys on retainer/on-call to respond to accidents and take witness statements on the scene as part of their own investigation. This is to protect the trucking companies.
3. Trucking companies hire trucking accident experts and reconstructions almost immediately after an accident in order to retain those experts for their own use in defending against those claims and to prevent accident victims and their attorneys from hiring them as expert witnesses.
4. Often times the police investigations are not 100% accurate as the agency often don't have the manpower to conduct a thorough investigation. For example: sometimes they don't interview all of the witnesses, don't collect all of the possible evidence, etc.
5. Trucking companies go to extraordinary lengths to defend these cases. The will spend thousands, sometimes hundreds of thousands, of dollars to mount a defense against victims and their claims for financial compensation.

Free Information For Accident Victims

In his years as a Seattle accident attorney, Chris Davis has seen injury victims make a number of mistakes before hiring a lawyer.  Mistakes that can potentially harm their case and reduce their settlement value. Davis has written several books on Washington accident law which define the legal process and identify some of the most common mistakes that people make. The books translate complex legal and insurance jargon into plain English, providing readers with the opportunity to better understand the accident claims process.
