A jury awarded $35.25 million to the family of a victim killed on a highway by a log delivery truck. The woman was one of four women who died in the crash on their way to celebrate a family wedding anniversary. The woman and her passengers were stopped on the side of the highway for another accident when a tractor-trailer slammed into the rear of their car.
The case was against CenTra Trucking Company that employed 61-year-old George Albright, Jr., who hit the woman.
In court, it was reported that Albright was tired as he was driving.
The other family members killed in the car accident were Beverly Garrett, her mother Beulah Hunter, and aunt Elois Jeans.
The jury in the trial returned a $5.25 million in compensatory verdict in the first phase of the trial and $30 million in the punitive damages in the second phase.
