3 Injured in Crash outside Walla Walla l Seattle Attorney

Date:  March 14, 2009
Location:  Highway 12 Walla Walla, WA
Type:  Car Accident

Three people were hurt on Highway 12 just west of Walla Walla when a car didn’t stop at the stop sign and was hit by a semi-truck.

Washington State Patrol said a Honda Accord, driven by Desirea C. Casey, 21, of Dayton, was traveling northbound on Hussey Road around midnight and turned onto eastbound Highway 12 without stopping at the sign. Her car then hit the trailer of a westbound semi that had veered away trying to avoid the accident.

Casey was treated and released from St. Mary Medical Center in Walla Walla. The passengers in the car, Courtney Ponticelli, 20, of Milton-Freewater, and Heather L. Mercado, 19, of Walla Walla, were also hurt.

Ponticelli was in satisfactory condition at St. Mary’s. Mercado was initially taken to St. Mary’s and then airlifted to Sacred Heart Medical Center in Spokane, where she was in stable condition. Neither was wearing a seat belt.

The driver of the semi-truck, David S. Irwin, 51, of Rocklin, Calif., was not injured. Drugs or alcohol were not believed to be a factor in the crash.
